The Story of Birth of Shri Krishna
The Story of Birth of Shri Krishna is narrated in the Dashama Skanda (Xth Canto) of Shri Bhaagavat Puran. The child form of Shri Krishna is Shri Devkikrishna – the Pradhana Devta
The story depicting the birth of Shri Krishna is exciting. It cannot be explained in words. His father Vasudeva who saw the child form of the Lord in the jail and exclaimed in the following words as stated in Bhaagavat Puran:
तामद्भूतं, बालकामम्बुजेहस्खनं चतुर्बुजम शंखा गदाद्युदयुधम श्रीवत्स लक्ष्मंगला शोभि कौस्तुभं, पीतम्बरं सान्द्र पयोदा सौभाग्य महार्हा व्यदौर्य किरीता कुण्डलं ट्विषा परिषद् सहस्र कुन्तइआ उद्धमा कांचायदा कंकनादिभि विरोचमाना वासुदेव ऐक्षता
This means “It was existing! Vasudeva saw a child with lotus eyes with four arms holding, conch, chakra Shrivasta mark and Shri Lakshmi on his chest and glowing Kaustubha Mani in the neck, Peetambharam, Kireeta with diamonds, Kundala (ear ornaments) and Kankana (wrist ornament) in his wrist.
Can anyone imagine Child like this! at Birth?
The Child is Shri Krishna. Mother Devki when she woke up and saw the child, she exclaimed with joy! Then Vasudeva and Devki expressing their fear about Kansa, prayed the Lord Narayana in the form of child to change his form into normal baby with only two arms. Accordingly He changed his form from four arms to two arms and mother Devki lifted the baby and held him in her arms and both the parents loved the baby. Then the Lord suggested to Vasudeva to shift Him to foster mother Yeshoda in Nandagokul and exchange Him with the girl baby lying beside her at Nandagokul. Vasudeva carried out these instructions of the Lord accordingly.
The Story continues where Shri Devki Krishna became Yashoda Krishna, Gopalakrishna, Radha Krishna, Navaneetha Chora Krishna, Go Krishna, Kaliamardana Krishna and Govardhanadhari Krishna. His brother Balarama son of Vasudeva and Rohini became his companion at Nandagokul and Vrindavan. Both have shown great miracles and divine deeds in their childhood at Vrindavan and Gokul.
Bhoomika : The Divine Journey from Nanda Gokul to Marcel
The Girlchild brought from Nanda Gokul escaped from the hands of Kansa and announced herself as Durga. She is now in Marcel in the form of Sthaan devi with her name Shri Bhoomika –
Mother Devki was in deep distress after losing both children Shri Devki Krishna and Shri Durga. She requested Vasudeva to get her an idol of Shri Devki Krishna which they saw when he was born. King Vasudeva got the idol of Devkikrishna with four arms with conch, chakra and lotus in his hand and gave it to Devki and mother Devki put a Laddu in the tiny hands of the Lord. This is the idol of Lord Shri Devkikrishna we worship along with his normal form of child with two arms held in the arm by mother Devki in the Temple at Marcel.
When we see these idols, it will be a thrilling experience and excitement. Shri Krishna idol with four arms is worshipped as Utsava Murthy and Devki Krishna with two arms held by Devki on her lap in her arms is permanent Pooja Murthy (installed idol). Present shila vigraha (idol) was reinstalled on 3. 5. 1979.
